May Sew My Stlye – the Myosotis dress

After taking April off I’m back with May’s Sew My Style. Sew My Style is a monthly challenge where you make set patterns to help you build your own capsule wardrobe. Not that I need a capsule wardrobe. I officially have a tonne of clothes!

This month’s pattern was a brand new release from Deer and Doe patterns – the Myosotis dress.

I must admit that I ummed and aahed a bit about getting this pattern. I don’t tend to wear many dresses and a gathered waist is not always my friend! However, having missed two patterns in the challenge already (the Rumana coat – too big a project, and the Marigold jumpsuit – yuck), I thought I’d better. I finished the dress today and I wore it for the rest of the day. It’s really comfortable and so nice to wear in the hot weather. It’s supposed to be over-sized rather than nipped in at the waist.

I finally got to use my rather expensive flamingo fabric that has been in the stash for nearly two years. I do sometimes find that fabric loses its monetary value when it’s been in the stash for a while. In other words, I didn’t make a toile! The fabric came from Sew Over It but they haven’t got it any more. Minerva Crafts are selling it here though.

Although it’s lovely and breezy, I thought I would like to have the option to cinch in my waist a little bit. I made the little bow belt from Tilly and the Button’s book Love at First Stitch. I need to make it a bit tighter though but I’ll save that for another day.

I made the size according to my waist measurements which was a rather large 44! I perhaps should have sized down one though. Some people who have made the pattern have commented that they have struggled to get the dress on and off. I can get it on and off without even undoing the buttons! I really like the fit of the dress around the shoulders and arms though so maybe I’m glad I went for this size!

So next month it’s a dressing gown (the Suki Kimono by Helen’s Closet). I have big plans for making lots of Christmas presents with this pattern and it would be so nice to be organised this year.

I have a hundred blog posts to write at the moment, including the rest of my Me-Made-May ones and some April makes. I shall see you very soon!
